This is an original watercolor on arches 300 lb cold pressed paper. The scene depicts children building and protecting their little sand castle from the ocean and other kids. Everyone has a sweet memory of building in the hot sand and then watching it disappear as the tide takes it away.

This depicts a red barn and farm nestled in a beautiful mountain valley with high mountains and lovely golden pastures. The cows are fat from leisurely feasting on the long grain and enjoying the views.

Dragonfly Brilliance 11 x 15

 Even though summer is gone there is the memory of dragonflies in the garden. I love the way they flirt with you. Their movements are fast yet graceful. Their colors brilliant and irridescent as they twist and twirl in the sunshine.

Rocky Mountain Farm Original Watercolor 16 x 20

This pastural scene is of a horse farm in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of the western US. In the spring it is so fun to drive around and see the horses eating the fresh green grasses and the foals laying next to their mothers. There is something soothing about the back country and nature in the Rockies.

“Clear Creek I and Clear Creek II”. These two small 5 x 7 original watercolors are companion pieces that were done en plein air at a beautiful spot on Clear Creek just outside Denver, Colorado. This little stream is full of small rainbow trout and is just as clear as it’s name.

The Dairy Farm Original Watercolor SOLD 12/24/2010

This is a painting of the Winterton Dairy Farm in Charleston, Utah. They no longer have the milking cows around but the atmosphere is still there when you visit. The wonderful burnt sienna color of the barns and the old red tractor still ready to plow the field are there for viewing. The farm holds memories for many individuals that have grown up in rural areas. SOLD

I don’t know to many individuals that don’t like raspberries and if they do dislike them then something is wrong.  Picking berries for me is just about as fun as eating them. Getting up early in the morning with the dew on the grass and preparing for a few hours of successful picking is a good stress reliever although some would disagree with me.

I was at Strawberry Reservior fishing and came upon this wonderful elderly man fishing by himself using worms and salmon eggs. He was so intent on catching the big one and dunking the worm that he was unaware of my taking photos and sketching. Winter has arrived in the western US although Denver is still beautiful and 65 degrees on Thanksgiving.  There is a lot going on in Denver besides skiing and winter sports. The Broncos have actually won a few games and I’m always hoping the Avalance Hockey team will start winning some of their games at home.

The art community looks forward to the annual Coors Western Art exhibit. Some of the best artists in the country bring their wonderful work to this show and I recommend it highly. The show runs during the first and second week of Jan. each year.

Just wanted to mention that I have picked up two new venues for my work. www.allmywalls.com will start selling reproductions of  my art in glass, wood or metal designs. A beautiful new gallery in Doylestown, PA. called 3795 Gallery will show four of my more abstract impasto works and they will open around Christmas time.

The Heber Valley nestled in the majestic Wasatch Mountains is home to several art functions during the summer months. One that has become quite well known is sponsored by the Midway Art Association and called the “Plein Air Paradise”. Hundreds of artists from around the Intermountain region arrive during a two week period in late June through the first week of July to paint the renowned scenery and compete for prizes. This is an event to come and watch and enjoy the fantastic art. There are two days of paint-outs in the cities of  Midway and Heber that draw crowds and an anxious group of artists waiting to see who wins the competition. Come join us!!

The Springville Spring Salon Annual Art Show in Utah is now exhibiting. It is one of the largest juried art show in the state and I recommend it for art lovers of all ages. The museum also has one of the most premier Russian Impressionists Collections that I am know of in the US.   Some very beautiful paintings.

Today I went to visit the current artist-in-residence artist at Zion National Park. His name is Dennis Farris from Texas. His work is unbelievable! I recommend going to his website and reading his daily blog about his experience as well as viewing is fantastic art. (dennisfarris.com)

This week I joined an on-line gallery of daily painters from Utah. It’s an amazing site and the creator of the site, artist Diane Whitehead is a phenomenal painter and person. She has sold over 5000 paintings on ebay alone and sells from 5 galleries and 2 on-line galleries. I have no idea where she finds the time.
Katrina Berg, a painter from Midway, Utah is also featured. She paints old homes in Utah with a very unique comtemporary look and has recieved numerous awards for her work. Please take the time to go to dailypaintersofutah.blogspot.com and view the art.

It was a great success at Soldier Hollow for the wasatch back artists. We hope to also be able to show our art during the month of Aug. at the same venue because the largest Sheep Dog Competition occurs at Soldier Hollow during the annual Labor Day Weekend celebrations in the Valley.
Locals have another opportunity to see our art. Starting Jan. 14, 2010 Katrina Berg and I will be exhibiting at the Patrick Lofts in Salt Lake City. We will also be on the Gallery Stroll for Jan. 2010, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 15. These are new lofts located in the Historic Patrick Dry Goods Building on 2nd South and 2nd West. We would love to have visitors come see our art.
We are also working on a site to show our art at the Sundance Film Festival. I will post an update of the location when we have received word.

The six artists that comprise the on-line gallery of wasatchbackartists.com are excited to announce we will be showing our art during the week of Jan. 01, 2010-Jan. 10, 2010 at the wonderful SOLDIER HOLLOW STATE PARK FACILITY in Midway, Utah. This beautiful facility was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics for the cross-country events. We would love to have visitors come see our art and enjoy the sleigh riding and skiing that is offered at the site. The art will be shown in the building housing the restaurant. It is worth the trip to the Heber Valley just to see the spectacular views of the valley covered in snow and the mist of season.
There will be a lot of paintings with themes of winter, snow, sleigh riding, skiing etc. at the show. Hope to see you there. Janice 

How Many Times Do I . . . !!!

11/30/09  GOOD NEWS . . . . .Found out the painting titled “How Many Times Do I . . .  !!!”  was awarded 3rd place in the wildlife/student division of ARTIST MAGAZINE’S annual contest. I hope you enjoy the antics of the ravens in this painting.
